Aviva Health is hosting its annual welcome dinner to celebrate recipients of the Earn to Learn (E2L) Scholarship and honor the community partnerships that make the program possible Monday, Monday, June 2, from 5 p.m., to 7 p.m. The event, held in Aviva Health’s second-floor conference space located at 150 NE Kenneth Ford Drive, will bring together this year’s incoming E2L scholars, returning alumni and representatives from Aviva Health, Umpqua Community College (UCC) and the Douglas Education Service District (ESD).

Nearing the end of its second year, the E2L Scholarship provides financial support to students pursuing healthcare careers at UCC and guarantees full-time employment at Aviva Health upon successful completion of their program. This year’s cohort includes six students: one medical assistant, one phlebotomist (joining as a medical assistant), one licensed practical nurse (LPN), one registered nurse (RN), and two dental assistants.

“This program is about investing in the future of healthcare in Douglas County,” said Essie Lewis, talent acquisition specialist at Aviva Health. “By supporting local students and providing them with a clear career path, we’re not only addressing workforce shortages but also helping our community thrive.”

New this year, Douglas ESD joined the E2L initiative by leading a three-day workforce readiness workshop for applicants. The training equipped students with skills in interview techniques, professional etiquette and workplace expectations, further preparing them for success in the healthcare field.

Aviva Health, UCC and Douglas ESD continue to collaborate on expanding the reach and impact of the E2L Scholarship, with the shared goal of cultivating a sustainable, homegrown healthcare workforce in rural Oregon.

The E2L program has been made possible through a partnership between UCC, Aviva Health and the Oregon Workforce Readiness Grant under the Future Ready Oregon initiative, an opportunity created to expand access to job training and career advancement opportunities, particularly for historically underserved communities.
