World Coffee Portal Releases 2025 European Market Report
Allegra’s World Coffee Portal recently released its latest Project Café Europe 2025 market report, which shows a prevailing sense of optimism for the coffee retail industry despite rising concerns over green coffee prices and operational costs. According to the report, the branded coffee shop market grew 4.7% over the last year, reaching 51,042 outlets.
Ka’u Coffee Festival Coming in May
Celebrating the coffees of the Ka‘u region on Hawaii Island, the 16th Ka’u Coffee Festival is taking place May 25-31. The festival offers a range of events, most of which are free or available for a small fee with reservations. See the current schedule here.
ICO Releases March 2025 Market Report

Guilder and Junior’s Roasted Coffee, the Portland, Oregon-based specialty coffee brands acquired by married coffee professionals Ryan Willbur and Laila Ghambari last year, are uniting under the name Guilder Coffee Company. Updates here.

SCA Seeks Equipment Sponsors for 2026-2029 World Coffee Events
The SCA opened up registration for manufacturers interested in becoming “Qualified Sponsors” for multiple World Coffee Events from 2026-2029. The group is seeking a grinder sponsor for the World Brewers Cup and water filtration, espresso grinder and espresso machine sponsors for the World Barista Championship.
Rules and Regulations Updated for 2025 World Barista Championship
The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) released its updated rules and regulations for the 25th edition of the World Barista Championship (WBC), taking place in conjunction with the HostMilano trade show in Italy in October. The changes address online registration submissions, appeals and complaints, an expanded definition of espresso and further clarification on judging penalties. All changes made are available here.
World Coffee Events Heading to Panama and San Diego
In more SCA-related news, the next World Barista Championship will be hosted at the World of Coffee Panama event in October 2026, at the Panama Convention Center. The World of Coffee San Diego event, in April 2026, will host the 20th edition of the World Latte Art Championship.
Matthew Algie Appoints Thomas Heinen Managing Director
Scottish coffee roasting company Matthew Algie recently appointed Thomas Heinen as its new UK and ROI group managing director. Heinen brings more than 25 years of leadership experience to the position, including 22 from his past senior roles at WMF Group.
