KARACHI - Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has announced that the upcoming polio vaccination campaign, set to begin on April 21, will be organised in a well-structured and effective manner, aiming for an exemplary conclusion.
Speaking at a two-and-a-half-hour long meeting at the Commissioner’s Office, Naqvi emphasized the importance of this campaign as a national duty to protect future generations from disability. The meeting, which was attended by EOC’s Irshad Sudhar, DC Malir Saleemullah Odho, Saud Khoso, as well as officers from UNICEF, the Health Department, and Karachi’s deputy commissioners via video link, discussed the implementation strategy for the campaign.
During his address, Naqvi highlighted that the 35 union councils in Karachi, particularly in the Kemari and East zones, will play a crucial role in spreading awareness about the dangers of polio. He also announced that prominent local personalities, social and political leaders will be involved in the campaign to further raise public awareness. “I, along with Karachi’s police chief, will personally participate in this initiative,” said Naqvi. He further stated that a follow-up meeting would be scheduled within the next two days, inviting the Secretary of Health and other relevant officers to ensure the campaign concludes successfully. Earlier, Irshad Ali Sudhar provided a detailed briefing, while Abida Omar, Qaim Nizamani, Dr. Hazim, Dr. Shumaila Rasool, and Dr. Faiz Zardari shared their insights during the meeting. ACK Syed Ghulam Mehdi Shah also updated the participants on the ongoing polio campaign in various areas.
