Coffee table design 'flaw' went unnoticed for two years

By Jo Abi|

It took two years for this homeowner to notice something peculiar about their coffee table.

And once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Sharing a photo of the seafoam and white tiled piece of furniture, they explained that they were cleaning the table when they realised there was something was missing.

"After 2 years of having this coffee table I just noticed a damn tile is missing," they shared on Reddit's Reddit's 'Mildly Infuriating' thread.

"RIGHT in the center of the damn thing too 😭

"I guess I usually have a coffee table book or something covering it but today when I was cleaning, it suddenly pierced my eyeballs that the center tile design is missing a triangle.

The owner explained the table wasn't cheap and is now "stuck with something that's going to bother the s**t out of me every time I see it".

Several people on the thread had trouble finding the missing tile, which isn't surprising seeing as it took the actual owner two years to see it as well.

But there it is, the square tile right in the centre missing the triangle on its left side.

"Perfect place for a plant, if you can't see it then it's not there," one person helpfully suggested.

Still unable to see it, one Redditer went even deeper with their red circles.

"I need a red circle here cuz I legit can't see it UPDATE: FOUND IT," they commented.

Another suggested the design may not be a mistake at all, querying the cultural context of the table and claiming that there are certain practices of deliberate imperfection.

"Honestly, your piece's imperfection is so obvious, it's hard to believe it isn't deliberate.

"So, instead of looking at it as tainted, look at the imperfection as an act of humility by the artist and a reminder of how very human you are," they added.

To the stories of the imperfection being deliberate, the coffee table owner said, "This is a way nicer way of looking at it, thank you for that. I think it's still gonna bug me a bit just visually but I'm a bit more at peace with it lol."

Just as they were feeling better, someone made the situation worse by clocking yet another 'flaw'.

'I thought you were talking about how this one square isn't split down the middle like every other tile.' (Reddit/Mildly Infuriating)

"If it makes you feel better OP, I thought you were talking about how this one square isn't split down the middle like every other tile," they said, posting a photo of the square in question.

The owner's response? "Oh CMON."
