The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) led the participation of 16 Peruvian companies at the Seafood Expo North America 2025, the main trade promotion platform for fishery products in the North American market, held from March 16 to 18 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Recognized as the most important fishing industry trade fair in the Americas, the event brought together key buyers and industry players, facilitating business opportunities and strengthening Peru's presence in this key market.

The Peruvian delegation secured commercial projections exceeding US$93 million, solidifying the country's position as a key player in the international seafood trade.

In its 2024 edition, Seafood Expo North America hosted over 1,500 exhibitors from 50 countries, with visitors primarily from North America, followed by Europe, Asia, and South America.

At the Peruvian Pavilion, PromPeru promoted the country's image as a leader in fishing and aquaculture, highlighting the quality, traceability, and sustainable origin of its offerings.

During the fair, Peruvian companies showcased products such as giant squid in various presentations, fresh and frozen mahi-mahi, scallops, canned, and frozen bonito and mackerel, as well as shrimp, eel, and paiche, which continue to gain interest in the North American market.

Peruvian exports to U.S. continue growing

The United States is the top destination for Peruvian fishery products intended for direct human consumption.

In 2024, exports of seafood products exceeded US$269 million, registering a 25.8% increase compared to the previous year.

Peru's seafood offering in this market consists mainly of scallops, canned fish, and frozen mahi-mahi.

Progress in sustainability and certification of Peruvian mahi-mahi

As part of the fair's activities, the side event "Peruvian Mahi-Mahi Fishery Improvement Project: Progress After Evaluation" was held, organized by the Peru Mahi Alliance in collaboration with PromPeru.

During this session, held on March 17, advances in the sustainability of mahi-mahi fishery and the next steps towards Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification following the three-year evaluation were presented.

Future strategies to ensure the sustainability of this fishery and strengthen its access to international markets were also discussed.

Through this remarkable participation, PromPeru and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) strengthen the presence of Peru's fishing sector in international markets, fostering sustainable growth and consolidating the country's image as a supplier of high-quality, value-added seafood products.
