Lucretia Elledge Georgi died peacefully in her sleep in the care of Legacy House in Logan, Utah, on Jan. 24, 2025. Lu wished to be cremated and her ashes spread at the family home in Richmond, Utah.
Lu was born at home on the family farm in western North Carolina on Dec 4, 1938, to loving parents, Luther and Bessie Elledge. Lu graduated from Mountain View High School, where she learned secretarial skills. She attended Berea College, Berea Ky. She met her future husband. Dick Georgi during summer work in the D.C. area. They were married in Bishop, Calif., on their way to Dick’s work as a ski instructor at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort for one year. They then moved to Pennsylvania for several years, where Dick was director at several ski schools and resorts and her children were born.
After her divorce, Lu chose Boulder, Colo., to raise her three children in the 70s. She had secretarial positions at the University Of Colorado In Chemistry and the new department, MCD Biology. She maintained lifelong friends from that time. She and her sister, Loretta Elledge Lockett, opened a clothing boutique, Calico Closet, on Walnut Street in Boulder in 1979. They enjoyed 13 years with many buying trips to trade shows in New York and the West Coast and she added a wider circle of friends.
She met her future husband, Gene Adams, during that time. Lu and family joined Gene in Washington for one year when he worked at the National Science Foundation. She volunteered at the African Museum then.
Gene then accepted a position at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, and they relocated to Cache Valley, Utah, with her youngest son, John. Lu enjoyed horticulture classes at USU and also started working for a clothing manufacturer known from Calico Closet days. She designed two clothing lines each year and was responsible for selecting fabric and designs and traveled to oversee production in Portugal, Indonesia and the West Coast. She enjoyed many trade shows in NYC and developed another extensive set of long lasting friendships.
Also during this time, her sister, Loretta, moved to Logan and they opened Accents, mainly clothing, and Lu also opened Possessions, mainly jewelry and gifts. Lu was active in many civic organizations and, as a lover of ethnic jewelry, was a member of the local women’s bead group.
After her husband’s cancer diagnosis, she moved to the historic district in Logan to be closer to medical resources for his care.
She enjoyed many active years after Gene’s death, and traveled with family to many wonderful places around the world, visiting her children in Amsterdam, Japan, England, Bhutan, Galapagos Islands and the Antarctic Ocean on a Smithsonian tour. She enjoyed restoring her home in the Logan historic district and added many flowers, herbs and fruit trees to her property.
Lu is survived by her three children, Teresa Georgi (Charlie Gough), Amsterdam, Netherlands, Richard Georgi (Sanae Ishikawa), Jackson, Wyo., and John Georgi, Richmond, Utah; her two brothers, Warren, Barry, and their families in North Carolina; her sister, Loretta Lockett (Currie), Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving daughter, sister, mom and friend to many.
The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy House who cared for her and enjoyed Lu’s quirky spirit and her special group of friends who were so helpful in her last years. The family would like to thank her son, John, who took such loving care of her over many years with love and humor.
A memorial service is being planned for August.
Donations can be made to Capsa and Stokes Nature Center, Logan, Utah.
