OF THIS TOGETHER FOR US THIS MORNING, AVA. WELL, GUYS, WE DID CONFIRM WITH ALLEGHENY COUNTY POLICE THAT A BODY WAS FOUND INSIDE OF THE HOME OF BERNARD JUNIOR POLITE. HE’S ALSO THE MAN ACCUSED OF TRYING TO SHOOT A PASTOR YESTERDAY DURING THAT SERMON. TAKE A LISTEN. WHEN HE GOT HALFWAY THROUGH AND HE CAME TO THIS POINT HERE, ALL OF A SUDDEN I JUST SEEN A GUN POINTING RIGHT AT ME. EXCUSE ME? ME POINTING RIGHT AT ME. AND AT THAT POINT, ALL I COULD DO IS TRY TO RUN FOR COVER FOR. ACCORDING TO POLICE, THIS WHOLE SITUATION STARTED YESTERDAY WHEN JESUS DWELLING PLACE, CHURCH WAS LIVE STREAMING ITS SERVICE THAT STREAM CAPTURED THE TERRIFYING MOMENT WHEN POLITE PULLED OUT A GUN AND AIMED IT DIRECTLY AT PASTOR GLEN GERMAN. BY SOME MIRACLE, WHEN POLITE TRIED TO FIRE THE GUN, IT JAMMED. GERMANY TOOK COVER AND CLARENCE MCALLISTER, THE CHURCH CAMERAMAN, JUMPED INTO ACTION, TAKING POLITE TO THE GROUND. I’M JUST GRATEFUL THAT YOU KNOW GOD SEEN IT. THAT NOBODY GOT HURT, ESPECIALLY WHEN A GUY HAD THE GUN POINTED DIRECTLY AT HIS HEAD. THEN, RIGHT AROUND EIGHT LAST NIGHT, THE EASTERN REGIONAL VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE 500 BLOCK OF STOKES AVENUE FOR A MAN SHOT. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS WHERE POLITE LIVES. WHEN POLICE ARRIVED ON SCENE, THEY FOUND A MAN DEAD. AS OF RIGHT NOW, POLITE IS ONLY BEEN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE AND NOT FROM THIS OTHER HOMICIDE RELATED INCIDENT. A church service in a Pittsburgh suburb was interrupted Sunday when a man jumped in front of the pastor with a gun in an apparent attempt to shoot him.Viewer discretion advised: Watch the incident unfold in the video player above It happened at Jesus' Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock. The church live-streams its services and captured the moment a man pulled out a gun and aimed it directly at Pastor Glenn Germany, that gun jamming."I'm thankful to God that I'm still here, because he definitely pulled the trigger," said Germany.Germany told sister station WTAE that he had never seen the gunman before Sunday. He says he noticed the gunman frequently coming in and out of the church, even giving the pastor eye contact. That's when the unexpected happened."I started to begin to preach and all of a sudden, from my left-hand side, I saw him move from the back to the front of the church, and he set up in the front corner of the church and smiled at me," Germany said. "...All of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointing right at me. And at that point, all I could try to do is run for cover."Church members quickly jumped into action as Germany took cover. One man even jumped to tackle the gunman. Eventually, he was able to remove the gun from the man's hands."He could have lost his life in that struggle," Germany said of the man who jumped in. "But he sacrificed himself for everyone, and he's the hero."Court paperwork identified the suspect as Bernard Polite, 26, of Braddock.According to the criminal complaint, Polite confessed to police that he tried to shoot Germany because, "God told him to do it," and that he wanted to go to jail to clear his mind.On Sunday evening, a body was found in Polite's home on the 500 block of Stokes Avenue.Police said a man was found shot to death inside.Early Monday morning, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identified the man found shot to death in that home as Derek Polite, 56, of North Braddock.So far, no charges have been filed in connection with the body that was found and Allegheny County police are investigating that incident.Meanwhile, Bernard Polite was arraigned early Monday morning on charges connected to the incident in the church, including attempted homicide.He was being held in the Allegheny County Jail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.
