In the northern regions, the share of Internet users is higher than in the southern regions (64% and 55% respectively), and in the city of Bishkek over 80% of residents use the Internet. This is stated in the study of the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan and M-Vector company "Media preferences of the population of Kyrgyzstan".
It is reported that the general indicator of Internet users in Kyrgyzstan is 59%.
"In cities, 73% of residents use the network, while in villages their share does not exceed 52%. Social networks are used by 46% of the population. In general, the total duration of one visit to social networks is less than 2 hours. The most visited social networks among users of this category of sites are Odnoklassniki (35%), Instagram (23%) and Facebook (13%), "the study says.
It is emphasized that in Kyrgyzstan the mobile phone is the main device through which the population gets access to the Internet. The most popular instant messenger application is WhatsApp, its users are 96% of the population.
The main purpose of using the social network is communication - 70%, a little more than 40% watch news tapes and another 25% are looking for the necessary information, including for raising their level of education.
The authors of the study noted that all data are based on a survey of 2 thousand 167 representatives of households, with an average number of family members.
