AHS Quiz Bowl team heads to televised state contest Saturday

The Arkadelphia High School Quiz Bowl team will be televised this Saturday as it competes for the state title in the Arkansas Governor’s Academic Competition at the Arkansas Educational Television Network in Conway.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, Arkadelphia will head off against Trumann School District for the 4A title. Quiz Bowl will be broadcast in two parts: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. The finals will involve seven conferences for a total of 14 teams. All games are broadcast from AETN/Arkansas PBS Channel 2, and scholarship money will be awarded.

The first round of matches will include in order of appearance:
4A – Arkadelphia and Trumann
5A – Magnolia and Batesville
3A – Mountain View and Atkins
7A – Little Rock Central and Rogers Heritage

The second round of matches will include in order of appearance:
6A – Russellville and Little Rock Catholic
1A – Sacred Heart and Norfork
2A – Haas Hall Bentonville and Life Way Christian

Each match will last approximately one hour. Matches will be available the week following broadcast on demand at myarpbs.org/quizbowl.

Quiz Bowl is a celebration and recognition of scholarship that has been an AETN tradition since 1985. In a series of questions, players must display their knowledge in literature, math, science, history, art, music and economics. Teams from across the state compete for the chance to represent Arkansas in national tournaments.

AETN Studios, located at 350 S. Donaghey Ave., Conway, will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Spectators will be admitted via the main entrance on Beatrice Powell and should arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. for the first round and 1 p.m. for the second round.
